Why Y.A.M?

YOGA is used as a tool to get out of the mind and check into the body to release trauma and reconnect to our inner strength. Yoga is what we bring to the table. It’s the tool we share with our community and our tribe to assist in the healing process.

ARTISTIC EXPRESSION can help connect people, at all stages of life or their recovery from trauma, to that inner healing voice. Children, youth, adults and the elderly can all participate in artistic expression. Creativity can be explored through a variety of artistic disciplines. Commonly identified methods include drama, dance, music, creative writing and the visual arts, including photography. All these activities engage the participant/artist in a process that uses a holistic health framework to access physical, mental, spiritual and social well-being.

MINDFULNESS is the present moment and nonjudgmental awareness of thoughts, sensations, and emotions. In other words, when you are fully present, you are being mindful. Feeling the warm sun on your face during a bright summer day, noticing the soothing water and soft lather as you wash your hands, or immersing yourself in your friend’s story—these are considered mindful moments

Y.A.M. wants to ignite a passion for daily yoga practice and mindfulness so that you can incorporate the learned tools from yoga in your daily life.
